A Key to Success

I am a morning person. I have been this way as long as I can remember. It wasn’t until recently did I really understand how crucial the morning time is to your success.

I want to share with you two things that can help you take your life to a new level this year. Over the last year, I have started to make a concentrated effort to develop both a morning and evening routine. I first heard this concept from Darren Hardy, the publisher of Success Magazine. He calls it the bookends of your day.

Morning Routine

Developing a morning routine is crucial for your success each day. I am sure there are a lot of people who wake up, shower, put their clothes on, grab a bite to eat, and go directly to work. This is probably one of the worst ways to use your morning time.

I guard and protect my morning time. This is my time for me and the Lord. I have time to really think about things and start my day right.

What changed my morning time for me was going to Tony Robbins’ Unleash The Power Within event in Chicago 2015. Tony really hit home for me the act of living everyday in gratitude. I have really taken the time to think about what that means to me.

Gratitude is tied to the quality of life you have everyday. I made a decision to live a life focused on Gratitude. When you are in a state of Gratitude, it is almost impossible to be in a negative state at the same time. Gratitude repels negativity and works to gravitate good things towards you.

I spend my mornings being extremely grateful for everything I have and everything the Lord has done for my family. When I made this small shift, my whole life changed. I started to become my best self.

Every morning I go through a priming exercise which is 15 minutes long. It is a recording Tony Robbins put together. The recording walks you through a breathing exercise, gratitude exercise, and goals exercise. After my priming exercise every morning, I feel ready to ATTACK my day. I attack life instead of reacting to it.

Priming was something I was lacking before in my life. Since I have started taking care of this time in the morning, I have a completely different outlook on my life. You need to implement this process because I know you will have results very similar to me.

Just a word of warning. Doing the same routine over and over can get a bit repetitive. I change up certain things about my morning routine from time to time. I might go to a different part of the house or maybe my car. I just say to keep it fresh and change it from time to time.

Evening Routine

My evening routine is not as detailed as my morning routine. I just run off of a few principles.

-No TV right before bed at least for 30 minutes.

-Read at least 10 pages after dinner that night.

-Look at my calendar to see what it coming up.

-Read the Bible.

-Pray with my wife.

-Spend time with my wife in gratitude exercise.

-This is not really iphone time.

 

I honestly do not watch very much TV at all. I do not have cable. We only use our Roku player.

Just like the morning time your evening time needs to be controlled to make sure you are going to bed with good thoughts on your mind. We shut the TV off at least 30 minutes before bedtime, if not earlier.

I love to read at the end of a day. It gets me a little sleepy, and it gets me ready for bed. I read from 2 books each night. I read a self-development book and the Bible. Reading just gets my mind thinking and puts me in a good state of mind.

Most people know they need to plan their days, but they just don’t do it. Most people live in reaction mode and do not have a plan to ATTACK life. I have had to build the habit of going over my schedule at night over an extended period of time.

My favorite part of my night time is spending time with my wife. I love that we have such a great relationship where we can be married and work our business very closely together. At night, we do not go into much business talk. We focus on giving each other gratitude and telling each other what we love about each other. We also spend some time together in prayer.

One thing I have had to learn over time is to make sure I am not glued to my iPhone so much during the evening. My wife doesn’t like that at all. So, I have made it a habit to not be on my iPhone much before bed.

I have included my regular day schedule. I usually wake up anywhere between 4:50am – 6:00am. I would have to adjust my schedule if I woke up at another time. Hopefully, my regular day schedule gives you something to work off of. Write down your schedule, and compare it to mine. Let’s see who is going to get to the top faster!!! Haha.

Here is my typical schedule:

5:30am – Out of bed

5:30am – 5:40am Bathroom time

5:40am – 5:45am Make my lemon/zeal water

5:45am – 6:00am Read the Bible and spend time in prayer

6:00am – 6:20am Priming, Gratitude, Goals

6:20am – 7:00am Workout or plan/read if i’m not working out

7:00am – 7:10am Make protein shake

7:10am – 7:40am Shower and get ready

7:40am – 8:00am Breakfast / Planning / Play with my son

8:00am – 8:30am Strategic Planning/Organizing

8:30am – 12:00pm Content Creation / Business / Marketing / Prospecting

12:00pm – 1:00pm Lunch / Family Time / iPhone Time

1:00pm – 2:00pm Spend time with my son and/or clean up

2:00pm – 5:00pm Website / Prospects / Developing

5:00pm – 6:00pm Zeal Break / Family Time

6:00pm – 7:30pm Prospects / Dinner

7:30pm – 8:00pm Dinner / Son’s bedtime

8:00pm – 8:15pm Take care of dogs

8:15pm – 8:45pm Read

8:45pm – 9:15pm Clean up

9:15pm – Bedtime Wife Time / Read / Plan / Journal / Sleep /TV / Etc.
